YouTube and Netflix have changed the way they stream video to browsers and now Fluid is not a supported browser so it cannot play videos. Developers, please fix!

If you are working on a local site and would like to load this up, remember to type the full site, i.e. `http://localhost:8080` Ill have to update this as I use it but so far so good…

This is an app that I’ve personally wanted for a couple years, but did know it was around. This is a great alternative to propping up my phone on my MBP or using split screen. I would definitely suggest this app. There are some MINOR quarks to the app, but I would say it’s about 90% perfect.

Nice app

nice feature for using it for tutorials, GUI is a little dull and would be nice to see it support .flv files

i like being able to add favorites but i dislike the scroll bar that is always visible. there are applications that have more pleasant appearances- i would switch to Helium if i had the ability to add favorites on their application.

Using both MacBook Air circa 2015; MacBook Pro 2016; iMac 21” — Fluid browser menu bar offers the option for screen opacity selection, but upon selecting any percentage option the app becomes completely unresponsive. Cannot re-size Fluid browser screen/size, again, Fluid becomes unresponsive. Fluid did not respond to ‘close app’ requests, or Activity Monitor shutdown. Force-Quit was required. In addition, Safari, Google Chrome and Firefox have developed issues ever since PURCHASING and attempting to use Fluid browser. I hope to get my money back from Apple as the developer is completely unresponsive.

I use this app to reference images while working in graphic design software and it’s nothing short of fantastic. However, one thing that bugs me is the non-removable icon in the Dock while the application is running. I mean, there’s already a Menu Bar icon, why the need to have a Dock icon as well? At least provide the option to disable it please!

I constaingly work with multiple windows, in fact I have two screens filled with different things I am working on. I also watch a lot of video on both Netflix and YouTube, though watching them is not perciecly accurate, mostly I listen to them. Because I mostly listen I have the window kept small and it usually get buried behind a few other things. HOWEVER I also like to keep an eye on what’s going on or know there is something I want to see so then I will have to go digging for it and usually rewind to catch what I missed. NOW I can ALWAYS have the video window ON TOP, in the CLEANEST window formation and the SMALLEST size. And since my usual main work area is white, I can keep Fluid in maximum transparency and still see what’s going on at all times. This is great! this is PERFECT. It is EXACTLY what I wanted. Thank You!

I really like the overall look and feel of the browser, I just have one small problem. Even after the last update, netflix still isn’t working on it. It works perfectly well of Safari, so I don’t know what the deal is.

Great idea! Need improvement!

GUI looks bad. Should add adblocker. Should support when other apps are full screened.

This app serves a very specific, but often-needed role. Having a persistent floating window for media with variable transparency is useful in many situations. However, the app could use some more interface design improvement. Some parts of the app lack retina-quality assets, so they look a little blurry. There are no preferences and clicking the menu bar icon just focuses or unfocuses on the Fluid browser. There are many helpful functions the developers could put in the menu bar icon. For example, it would be nice if you could pause or mute from the menu bar icon, in addition to just focusing on the app. However, my biggest complaint is that the app’s user interface does not follow standard OS X user interface guidelines. The app just doesn’t really look like it “fits” in with the rest of OS X. All of the best Mac apps have a very native look and feel. Fluid looks very out-of-place. The tool bar uses custom interface elements instead of native elements, and the icons aren’t labelled so you don’t know what they do until you click them (and even then it’s not always obvious). Of course, you don’t see most of those elements when you’re watching content, but it’s still an clunky experience. The user interface design is just subpar overall. It’d be great if the developers totally redesigned the interface using native OS X interface elements and followed Apple’s human interface guidelines. It shouldn’t be too difficult considering how simple the UI is. It’s also just kind of buggy and needs all-around improvement. For example, the menu controls on YouTube videos sometimes get stuck on the screen and can’t be hidden unless you reload the video. You can’t access the YouTube sidebar for some reason (I think this is because Fluid appears to pose as a mobile device, which is a hacky workaround that seems to cause problems).

After trying this for a couple of days I have to say that thisis avery mixed bag as Browsers go. And atthis point I can’t really recommend it as a primary browswer but can as a secondary one. The bad stuff first. If you move multiple pictures in, eventualy the app tends to freeze. This happens a bit less frequently with some of the movies I have tried. URLs are not saved in history in a persitant way so if you restart your histpry is gone. Also saving list of URLs outside the program with anything other then copy and paste is not possible. There is no preferances for customization. There is no Stop button so if you hit a redirect you are along for the ride. Tried You tube via Google and it shifted me to seeing the video and would not allow me near the coments page. You can save pics easily but only in the form of copy or downloads So if you want to save a picture of yours from a gallery to your desktop for touch ups you are out of luck. There are more issues that I consider far more minor but those are teh highlights. The Good. It does what it says. The app is not very memoy heavy and it does drop info fairly easily. It also is a very nice loking interface (if sometiems a bit less then standard OS but if you have been a switcher you will have no problems there. At 2.99 I think this may be a bit over priced if you want to use it as a primary browswr but if you want to use it as a light forgetful browswer that supliments your primary browser and in a support tole to other probrmas then it is worth it.

This is a great application, I use it very frequently. The only thing that frustrates me is that there are no built in zoom functions or tab features. If I want to watch a video on a website that doesn’t scale the player to the window size, I can’t make the video size any smaller or bigger. (Same goes for normal web pages).

I love this Browser

It’s a great tool for multi-tasking.

LaniRae · 10 years ago

Bummer! The one feature this is missing is exactly what I bought it for, to watch my YouTube Watch Later queue. It will work with other published playlists but will not function at all with Watch Later. All other features are as advertised. I hope this gets fixed in an update because the way it displays YouTube videos and playlists is phenomenal. It is just unfortunate it can not access the most important (at least for me) content.

1. The browser cannot adjust the size of the website as other browsers…its kinda frustrating. 2. PLUG-IN ERROR all the time when I watch video! That doesn’t happen to my other browsers!

If you didnt love this app before, I am updating my review to a solid 5 stars. This company definitely listened to my feedback about hiding the dock icon and made this version so much better! I look forward to seeing what comes next.

won’t download files

won’t even download PDF forms!

Noguilt · 10 years ago

I wrote an honest review on the last version and complained about the menu bar taking up too much space on the screen. The developers actually listened to my feedback and fixed the problem with an intuitive solution that works great. Thanks for listening and keep up the good work.
